gotta go bigger then 2 1/4 inch exhaust?
Took out my VVL b13 for the first time last night. The exhaust had to be cut off about a foot after the header, so when I drove it the car felt awesome. The cam switch was a big kick. When we connected the 2 1/4 exhaust the car feels much different now. Will going to 3inch exhaust bring that violent feeling back?

hmm, i was told the VE didn't have the violent kick from low lobe to high lobe because it was designed so much better than a VTEC motor.. like it was part of the smoothness and being better refined..

though it seems weird to me

what cams do you have?

Once you tune , you won't have a noticeable "cam switch".

But you will have moar powah everywhere

And if you are going to upgrade your exhaust from 2.25" anyway, you really should consider going to a 3" exhaust to fully exploit your ve.

BTW, do you have a SE-R or an NX? I have a 3" SE-R catback I would let go for a reasonable price.

Basically if you disconnect the exhaust your ideal cam switchpoint will move up so if you don't change it and swap the exhaust back on it will feel more civil when it switches over. If you tune right it should not feel like a kick or anything especially with stock cams.

3" is the way to go for power imo. Its kind of obnoxious but mostly to people outside the car. If you dd it though run a high flow cat. It makes it much more tolerable imo and really is only a mouse fart away from full power.

If you want a smoother cam switch you should get a independent switch,
to activate the intake first then the exhaust cam at a higher rpm.
The favorite option is the Greddy MSS but they're hard to come by.

Yes, I agree that 2 switches can smooth it out to look like one long healthy power surge

I'm switching them both at once because I kinda like the violent feel. And Happynole I have a sentra but I can't imagine shipping an exhaust from Georgia being worth the cost unless its something really cool lol. I probably will go 3 one day, I'm just not sure the cost and added noise are worth it. This is my daily driver I don't need to extract every single drop of power. I just want a violent cam switch like my S2000.

If you want a violent cam switch, then you should set your switch point at higher RPMs than optimal. This way, the engine stays on the low cams too long, then, when you jump to the high cams there will be a surge of power. This will not give you the fastest car, only the impression of more power when the high cams kick in.

To answer you question, you should have AT LEAST a 2.5" exhaust on a VVL. Lots of people (including myself) will say 3" if you are going with n1 cams.
