SR20VE Full Harness, ECU, Auto Trans, Maf, Axles?
I just copped a VE and looks like I may have a lot of extras possibly including
---VE Complete Engine Harness
---Primera P11 Auto Trans & Possibly Axles
---VE MAF (Same as Frontier/Pathfinder?)
---SR20VE Primary & Secondary Header
---VE ECU and all Sensors

I figure I have a couple options... of course my car is whack and is a 1998. As you all know we got boned with the changed ECM setup, evap crap and a peg legga trans. First and foremost I want to get rid of the 1998 stuff so I can eventually run a daughterboarded ecu, or whatever the most recent tuning software/hardware is available. I was looking around in my basement, and I found a pre 1998 b14 ecu, lol... and I believe my bud has got an lsd trans and axles I can use as well.

For now to get the car back on the road I will likely run the b14 ecu and advance the timing for the VE injectors. Boghetto, I know... but I need to do a few weeks of research before I jump into which management I need to purchase to get this thing to run optimally.

Tekkie Notes... haha Get it his name is Cliff? haha! No?... Fine --> Questions...
1) Has anyone made use of the Complete Engine Harness and ECU/Sensors in the US? Based on what I know the only limitation would be not having the ability to get any support via management. Has this changed over the last 2-3 years?
2) Is there any advantage incorporating the VE Maf in a future tune?
3) I've been out of the game for a minute... Did Calum leave? Where can I find information on what people are using nowadays for engine management and cam switching.

I'm reading up for the next few days... but it would be good to hear from you guys... man its been a while.

Ditch the VE stuff and just convert the car over to a Pre 98 harness or get a step down harness. Then you can use a Calum, Nistune, or what ever tickles your fancy. The VE MAF can be used when you use a tunable ECU.

I would do a step down harness to a obdI or I would pull the harness and replace it with a eariler model. If you do a step down to obd1 then you can use the stock ve ecu which has outputs for the solenoids.

Everyone says to ditch it... but why?

What is a step down harness? Isn't the VE harness obd1 as well as the ECU... why would i need to step down? (Not being hardheaded... really just questions).

Again... step down? I'm unsure why I would need a step down harness if I have this full uncut one. Where does the problem lie? The connections to the perimeter harness?

I have the diagram for the ve harness some where but its in japanese. I think the perimeter harness would be the issue. I am not a fan of cutting on the stock harness thats why I suggested the step down. Plus it would allow you to run obd1. I am about the replace the engine harness in my ve car do to the previous owner hacking the harness.

Is there emissions in Ohio?

Step down the stock harness and use a usdm ecu so you can chip it. You can't chip the ve ecu. Then get Tunercode and use the programable outputs and be done. Why would you use the ve ecu/harness? The sensors are harder to get and you have something you can't tune easily.

what up on what is going on and you will see.

No emmissions here...

What I'm saying is... this is my second VE swap. This is my 9th or 10th (I dunno) sr20 swap. I did a VE swap with a friend a few years ago and things were straight forward. Typical Basic Stuff - Stock DE Ecu, cut tab on Dizzy, Modify Throttle Cable Bracket, Wire Knock Sensor, Swap Water temp sensor, Timing, Start up... Vroom. Later MSD switch was added, bam. Essentially I understand how to throw it in, what people typically do.

I'm just asking if anyone has used the VE/ECU harness because I just want to know if it has be done. Why? 1) because I have this stuff and it would be a great alternative to use it if possible. 2) It would be simple, and I wouldn't need to tune it. 3) I'm asking because I don't know, and would like to know if anyone has tried it with success.

I'm not sure what you mean by step down.

I just re read what i wrote... and it seems rude. Don't mean to come off that way.

So basically when ur sayong step down, u mean go obd1 ecu? Are you saying is people don't use the b14 ecu for tuning anymore? Man two yrs goes by and things are all crazy... I don't even know what tunercode is... so sounds like I need to catch up again.

What have you guys been doing to "step down"... do I need to buy an obd1 harness adaptor?

^Awesome first paragraph lol. I don't have much to add besides make sure you get some N1 cams .
