I think for bores alone, a good port/cleanup is more then enough.

Juns motor wich made 280 on n1's had a port job, nothing crazy. Same goes for corys , he just had a nice clean up. Both of them run/ran stock valves.

I do recommend cutting the crank alot, frees up alot of weight. Fiz, jaime and a few of us from my camp have/will have cut cranks.

For my head ill be doing a full port and polish, bowl work, valve work, combustion chamber smoothing and port matching.

But for a bored motor a basic job is the way to go.

Stratton.

did the injector still work? as in the engine sounded normal an didnt sound like a subaru or like it was only on 3 cylinders? or was it more like, it worked enough at idle but didnt spray enough fuel while driving ect. ?

sorry for all the questions, just tryin to learn some stuff incase it ever happens to one of my motors.

thanks

All was kept pretty much oem. Wheelz i'll let you know about those pistons. I haven't forgotten about your cam gear either. I'll be in touch.

Honestly, I didn't even check if the injector was working. My harness was in a spot where I couldn't wiggle off the clip. The motor was definitely running on 3 cylinders though. I checked and it was getting spark.

Everything seemed perfect. The car always ran on all 4 and screamed. It was just new years eve when it felt like 2 tons were attached to the back of the car. Thats when the blowby, sputtering, etc all started.

hmm so the injector must have failed all of the sudden, but how much driving on 3 cylinders does it take to melt a piston.. i drove my car for a few days on 3 cylinders cause i didnt know one of my injectors wasnt plugged all the way in, i thought it sounded like a subaru because of exhaust leaks.. well i know better now..

i did compression check it, an have a few times since and all cylinders are even thank god! lol

Lol must of lucked out. I drove it about 20 miles after it happened because I just didn't care. I knew it was going to have to get torn down so I said fack it lol. I'm sure having the motor spinning at 8K then all of a sudden no fuel could have caused some damage. I think I am going to make sure my injectors from now on will be cleaned, tested, inspected, etc.

You will probably find that the injector didnt completely fail, but ratherwasnt deliering enough fuel. If it provided some fuel, it would be enough to provide a lean burn, which would raise temspa dn eveentually detonate the crown of the piston.

Rebuilt. Just another 20ve bottom but its finally done. First actual build but had my cousin FatonSR20 helping throughout the way. Big ups to birthday boy J Marsh being on speed dial for 100,000,000 questions haha. Hopefully starting it up tomorrow and praying everything is good!
