Sorry to hear Stratton, just to quell the fears there will be a convention as long as SR20DEEP is around.

So what happened presumably is the spark plugs extended into the cc far enough to actually make contact with the pistons? I guess that could happen for sure but not sure how u ended up with that happening.... wrong plugs or headwork?

Stratt before you ditch anything clay the motor to make sure nothing is off, this way you know for sure its the plugs.

hey guys, just to clear things up.

i believe the tune ran lean, blew/melted the spark plug tip off it flew around and were there was no clearance on the out most part of the head and piston caused alot of damage.

all other spark plug tips were blown/melted off. not contact what so ever with the piston caused it, it was all because of the tune imho. all the other cyclinder are perfect no damage luckly. it seems either they melted up or exited the motor cleanly. it could have happened little by little also, but for some reason a bigger chunk in number 2 cyclinder came off and stayed intact and caused the damage.

give me a lil less then a month and ill be at it agian. just have to find a better tuner this time around. i cant just trust some one at this point, i have to have 100% faith hell do what needs to be one. piston is ordered, head gasket ordered and im giving the head back to my buddy who ported it to clean it up.

stratton.

I for one know how you feel, Dumb as it sounds Strat, when its up and running again, put back a stock intake manifold, maf, your current 4-1 and a nissan tunable ecu(for now)til you have enough miles on it.Dont throw all the goodies at it at once when you have no starting point regarding a tune/base map, because all it takes is one issue with all the supporting cast and its bye,bye motor. I have over two thousand miles on my 2.4 and its running strong as shit.I started with the basics and gradually added one aspect at a time.Again, its all part of the game,I know you'll be good next time around. Good Luck

So those marks on the outer rim of the piston and outer part of the head are little knicks and dings and not white deposits?

This sucks, please come to the Convention still. Lots of fun to be had and it gives you a great moment to recoup and gather thoughts!

Strat, was it one of those things that was seen going lean and stayed in it. How lean did it go? When I was tuning my buddy peters ve on the dyno, above 5500 rpm it went to about 13.7-14:1 and didnt have issues other than power wasnt there. Again although this was a stock compression 2.0 VE. That sucks man. It definitely probably saw some detonation. Melting can occur like you said without detonation like if the other plugs disintegrated and just left the cylinders untouched but could have had some on that cylinder and broke the plug tip leaving a bigger trace. Who knows.

I just hope you can find someone to tune it that knows what they are doing. When i started tuning mine thats what i did was work a 1000 rpm window at a time watching very closely to a/f ratio. Second go around I was also monitoring knock. I believe my issue was definitely that bad weldon regulator because once i got 22psi tuned went to 25 and parts of the map that were already tuned all of a sudden went lean, just didnt make sense until after i found the problem. lol

Good luck getting it back together Strat. Just keep with it and you will succeed
