This just isn't the case... the stock 2.0 ve high cam is very close to the specs of the jwt s4. And how many 180-190whp s4 des do you see running around.... exactly you don't.

and by "ebay" header, you mean an SSAC type? right? or something worse?

The Gen 5 was the one majorly copied.

your VE has:
HS Gen 5 header
High lobe IN-.421" LIFT/264 DEG.DUR - High lobe EXH-.407" LIFT/268 DEG.DUR
way more than 167 butt-dyno whp

your DE has:
HS Gen 4 header
S4 cams- IN- .464" LIFT/266 DEG.DUR. EXH- .464" LIFT/266 DEG.DUR.
167 dyno'd whp

what about compression in the two? That is obviously a factor because the S4 cams are WAY more aggressive, yet yielding much less power? We need to see a dyno on your VE. You're 167 whp seems about right for a bolted/tuned S4 equipped DE.

Is there any chance of the "VTAK KICKED IN y0!!!" affect??

N1 cams are very close to S4 cams.. not Stock 2.0 VE cams..

The heads between a low/port or high port DE flow, vastly different and far inferior than when compared to any VE head.

This is why there is such a large difference in performance between the two. Sure the nudge in compression ratio helps as well. But when you got a head flowing almost 100 CFM MORE of air at .500", that is some serious air.

Better flowing head and intake manifold.

higher compression.

lighter roatational mass (4cwc)

better oil pump and squirters.

the ve is far superior out the box.

stratton.
