You certainly can measure the bore to make sure it is still round, re-hone the cylinders, run new pistons and rings and have an engine that will last. There is not always a need to bore when switching pistons. You need to know how to measure properly and if it is within spec, good to go. There are several engines running for years that prove this I have done personally. Not sr20's, just customers engines that were done at the shop I was at for the last 7 years.
