vvl shifting points with 20v Cams
Hey guys wanted some ideas as to what shifting point to use on a stock sr20ve with 20v cams? Guys who have tried these cams what points have you been using?

~6.4-6.5K is where it likes to switch, that's where the low lobe starts to fall off. That's in a 20V with the stock 20V cams though. The 20VE might be a little different so maybe wait for a bit more confirmation.

Today on the dyno a 20V wanted to switch closer to 7k, 6.3 was just falling off way to much.

However that was due to the combination of header and intake.

SO what you are saying is that the stock shifting point from factory is around 6.4-6.5k?

I don't know that anyone has really tested the the P12 OEM car to see where exactly it engages (mine is a 20V in an AUDM N15), but that's where the low cam starts to taper off so generally, doing a run with the low cam past its point of usefulness then doing a run with the high cam from well below its normal point will see a 'crossover' point which is pretty much where you should switch cams, give or take a couple a hundred rpm. That's where it works for my car with my setup, which is basically a stock standard setup.

Wow I didn't realize nor do I think anyone else in this thread realized he's asking for SHIFTING points lol. I guess I'm so used to people asking when to switch their cams I didn't really pay attention to the title. I guess the shifting point would all come down to what gear box your running and what your curve looks like. Id have to see a graph...

The thread title is "VVL Shifting points" not "Gear Shifting points"

The OP replied to the posts once already and didn't correct the previous replies. I think he's just expressed it differently to what you're used to ?

Either that or he thinks that changing gears at 6.5K would be a good idea...

Definitely guys i am talking about switching points of the low into high cam scenrio. Sorry about the wording. I will be going on the dyno on Monday so i will post some charts after that. Just for information i have a P11 gearbox on the car at the moment as well i am gonna use a SR18 gearbox later....

If you are going to the dyno, no one but you can tell us what the best switch points were for your cams.

When on the dyno, do as Cozzm0_AU suggests on Post # 5 and you shall find out the best switch over point.
