Now Im wondering if this had anything to do with bending some valves on my 20v head. I checked the links on the chain before removing the head and all marks lined up just like they should there for skipping teeth can be ruled out.

I would say the egg came before the chicken. I think you over reved, bent the valves and therefore put a lot strain on the chain and tensioner.

The chain and tensioner will get more stressed if the spring rates goes up, more aggressive cams, and higher rpm. The valves contacting the pistons will definately make it harder to rotate the engine therefore putting more strain on the tensioner.

I only took it to 9K which is not out of this world for these motors and my valves didnt get bent. The intake vavles touched the piston but not enough to bend them. Mazworx revs his motor to 11k with a factory tensioner and a aggressive cams.

Yes Mazworx did it, but did they have valve to piston contact when they did it?

It's better to think the tensioner cracked because of high rpm valve to piston contact, instead of thinking that a design fault in the tensioner caused the other way around

Not sure what's going on here. I just took the oil pump off and to my amazement the chain was lined up with the sprocket just as it should be. Now I'm really confused as to why I was only getting 90spi of compression right after it happened. I should of checked a little more before ripping the head out right away.

We'll be back revving to 9K soon.

My chain tensioner cracked in 2 places. I assume it happened after i put sr16ve cams. But i have my rev limiter set to 7950 so i didn't rev too high.

i think theres more to it then just over reving. ive been reving my n1 to 8k and never have had a issue.

Yo i went to pickup this sr 2 weeks ago and went on a test drive and the timing chain broke. I never saw that before [ yes the timing chain broke] anything is possible

jose, did you put the tensioner in oil before you installed it..if you didnt the clip can unlock and put extra tension on the chain when installing it..
