Its much heavier, and has more windage.

I fully believe that the vibration lead to my impending bearing failure. And I currently have a Jun superlight flywheel (really too light in my opinion) that will help offset the crank weight difference. I am also going to run one of these:

how was this engine treated regularly?

Lot's of high revs at track days. Very little regular relaxed driving. The final straw was at the convention when I couldn't use 4th gear (shifter issues) so I drove around in 3rd gear all day. From 3000 to 9000 and back again lap after lap. In discussions with people who are more knowledgeable than me, the 4ce crank was not the main culprit (a couple of missed shifts were), but it didn't help either. The harmonic distortions (??? or whatever, I'm not a technocrat) of that type of engine stress could be reduced by the full balance of an 8cw. Since I have one and the motor will be apart, I am going to change over.

wouldn't this "ruin" the square bore/stroke characteristics that make the 86x86 so beautiful?

over square is even better if you like high revs... which is why I'm going to 92mm bore & stock crank for a 2.3L build

plus by going to 92mm bore, you gain a lot more displacement than going with just the 92mm crank, for about the same money (ish)

Mazworx quoted me $1850 to bore out to 92mm and sleeve my block and give me a new oil pump.. lots of other stuff involved....

with the 92mm crank, you get a lot less displacement, a "stroker" motor that revs more like a truck engine... or a KA21DE if you will..,,, (i say 21 because it would be a 2.1L right?)

anyway, has all of this been covered?? I didn't read the whole thread.

LOL - you are a little late. Somewhere in the first 30 posts I've already been convinced to go another route

hehe.. yeah i've been a little preoccupied with some other things..

I was going to go with a stroker too, but I wanted to bore to 92mm and stroke to 92mm, but decided to just bore out.. so much more displacement gain for so much less headache..

and you get fast revving motor and greater compression gains too.

I would have a stable of cars if that were the case...

n1 pistons will strike the valves.

use de forged pistons. or less cr.

2.4 is good for a vagon, not for the racecar. 92 crank will make you rev max to 7k. there is no life before 7k but a great daily driver imho.

Your 92 likes best oil, best race bearings (with extra clearance) and etc. so it is a nasty engine. imho.
