91mm crank (top) vs Stock crank (bottom)

Joe imagine the crank at the top of it's throw. You then have the rod height added onto that, and then the piston height. All of that gets you to the head gasket let's say for example.

If you now have a crank that's 3mm "taller" because of the increased throw that 3mm will push you way past the head gasket into the head if you keep the stock height rod and piston. That 3mm needs to be taken up somewhere. Either in a 3mm shorter rod, or with a piston that has the wrist pin mounting point raised 3mm up (or with a piston with 3mm chopped off the top but this isn't feasible for many reasons).

Yah, there are a few ways to skin this cat. None of them are necessary as long as you use one of the other methods. Do you need shorter rods? No. Do you need a custom piston? No.

But you have to do one of them.

You will use the stock length rod but you will need a custom piston with the pin located 3mm higher not 6mm?? Since the piston will travel 3mm higher and 3mm lower in the cilinder jejejeje...
Not a good idea to just fix a rod knock....

Not to pick on you, but no you don't need either. You could always run a deck plate.. beauty of this is you keep your r/s ratio where its at if you go with a longer rod. But ofcourse you would need to sleeve if you wanted to run a deck plate.

I was going to mention a deck plate, but talk about going through your elbow to get to your ass. While we're at it you don't need to do either of those three options. You could always go with a custom head too if you felt like it. Or a custom block that places the crank center line lower. Or any number of other solutions.

Ok, so scratching that idea. I do have a perfect 8cw crank out of a DE that was going to get knife edged for my original sleeved block plan before Mazworks came out with their crank and I jumped on it. I'll just go with the good 8cw crank, new bearings, the N1 pistons and Tomei rods and call it a day. I'm sure I can get my money out of the Mazworks crank. Message going out now to the first guy who told me he wanted it.
