Thread: ticking at idle?

So i finally put the motor back together, threw it in the NX

New bearings, seals, etc

At idle after the car is warmed up, it clatters real bad, like spun bearing or the like. When i rev it up, the clatter goes away. Idle oil pressure's like 15-20 psi at hot. Any suggestions?

could be a valve lash tick?

i dont know much on the motor but try adjusting the valves.

are you running stock injectors?

Where is the noise coming from? Head or bottom end?

With the engine running pull a plug wire one by one and see if the noise goes away. I f the noise goes away and starts again with the wire connected you just isolated the noisy cyl. Then go from there.

well, would valve lash be noisy only after the engine's been running a while? it goes away if i start it up in the morning or when the engine's cold...

i'm running VE injectors with a calum ecu

the sound is most likely coming from the bottom end, i think i will pull the plug wires tomorrow, and see what else it could be...

could you get a video of this? it would be easier that way

The lash would be noisy no matter what, but rpm will matter. If you start it cold and the rpm is at 1500, then the noise may be less noticable.

as an update, i put in 20w50 and so far, no more clattering noises...
i plan to run this stuff for a few weeks and see what happens.

any suggestions or opinions?
are there any downsides to 20w50?

eh could possibly just be masking a major problem. how does it drive otherwise now with that oil in it?
