Thread: timing map advice

ok so im a noob an stuff an have just been experamenting with other peoples timing maps and or modifying them. but im still not super sure where the timing should be at in the different load sections ect..



when i datalog in nistune i go back an see what cells were accessed during the run an so far the last 2 colums on the right dont get used much but it does go all the way to the top.

if anyone that has nistune wants me to send them the bin or run file let me know

base timing is 15* perfectly no goofy distributor position LOL

33 degrees is a lot of timing.....

My engine only runs 29 degrees!

im not too sure about timing on a ve im just getting into tuning my slef but 33 deg is alot of timing. i know motors can handle more timing / tq at higher rpm but i would like to see a more conservative map and maybe highlighted cells of what cells were used. either way im subd

On a standard, stock compression VE this is not alot of timing...

The map looks alot better than the previous posted. 33 degree's peak is not much for timing. Some VE's out this way like 35 degrees up top, and have been that way making good power for years.

There are many factors that come into play for timing on a motor. You may have 2 identical setups that like 2 different points for peak timing.

The last two columns don't get used because you're load values are too high. If its n/a vvl those don't need to be higher than 7X. What base bin are you are using?

Totally agree. My old set up was running 35degrees up top total advance.. I as even in the 30s when I was running my modified sr16 pistons. Also some motors are weird, some keep advancing like timing to keep advancing all the way to peak power nd others make more when it tapers off. I really think its hard to post ur map and have ppl give u advice.

The dyno won't lie, just make runs playingwith ur diff rpm points in 2degree intervals until you get as much power as it will make. If its stock cr you really shouldn't have to worry about knock, with 92+ gas you will most likely hit your peak whp before you run into your knock threshhold.. although every motor is diff.....

My car when it was NA was running some very aggressive timing. In some sections throughout the curve it saw 38-42 degrees of timing.

What the fawk! 42 deg?!?! Could I get a copy of that bin sir?

i guess i didnt clerify much, im mostley makin sure that im not in the danger zone, i realize that the only way to truely know is on the dyno, but funds are tight atm so dyno time has to wait.. i just dont wanna blow anything up until i can get back on it lol..


this was a stock de base that i modifyed.. took a few pieces frmo the alfred bin an a few pieces from the pito bin an the rest is stock or what i've done..

Well if u can't dyno it. Id say just copy the calum ve base map and run that at 15 degrees till u can dyno it...
