I was hoping for some pics further back. It hard to tell but looks like its one tooth off. Again when its right it wont look off at all. It will absolutely straight up. The intake cam is easier to tell that its off in your pics. Id say move them both foward just one tooth on each cam gear and then rotate it over after putting the tensioner back in and see how they line up then.

Hey Ashton, is the dot on the outside of the sprocket supposed to be at 12 and 10, or is it the alignment pin on the inside that's supposed to be at 12 and 10?
I've never had to deal with that because I always do this sort of thing with the engine out and the oil pump off so I can see all three marks.

hmm what would I need to check for that, doesn't seem to be out as, timing was spot on before the N1 cam install am leaning towards what Ashton is mentioning...just need to get my head round to how to adjust it one tooth forward on both cams...

Its the cam gear alignment pin that needs to be at 12 oclock on the exhaust and 10 oclock on the intake.

Each tooth on that is about 15 deg or so so if it looks off it more than likely is. Ive guided people though retiming an engine without marking the cam gear or chain or anything over the phone and just told them that if it looks off it is. You have to have a decent eye but it should point straight up. If its just before or just after its probably 1 tooth off.

And about the crank pulley. If your timing is staying at 15 deg and not bouncing around especially if you blip the throttle and let it return to idle and its still 15 deg solid then the broken pulley is probably not the case. The timing will be bouncing all around when that happens and will usually be noisy down in that area.

....I turned my motor and those odds are crazy for pins to get like that after start up

Alignment pins should be at 10 intake 12 exhaust at TDC. Ashton knows his stuff. When you do enough of these you just know if your alignment is spot on or if it's off enough to skip a tooth. That's why zipties are my friend. The only time I didn't use them the cam timing was way off and the car ran like crap.
