Part blame comes down to the person who assembled the engine. You always check the deck and front cover!

Fize had this motor spec'd and assemble by a shop out West. I thought they would have checked this or known better during assembly, but I guess if you want it done right you have to do it yourself.

^^you guys are both correct. when i talked to Benson a while back he said he removes "the minimum amount possible when decking the block". he said that a lot of times the front cover can be used w/o any further work to it. other times, only a very small amount will need to be removed from the top of the cover to make it flush or slightly lower than the head surface. and ABSOLUTELY this is the responsibility of the assembler to check before installing the head!

too late, man.

Shouldn't that be communicated to the customer?

So the timing cover was proping up the head not allowing 100% seal. This would be the assembelers fault for not.making sure it was square, not bensons. If i am understanding what you said here.

Stratton.

No blame being pushed on Benson here. I said earlier he was just not able to do certain things to ensure proper head sealing (machine front cover). This information was relayed to the assembler but not to Fiz or myself.

When I pulled the head you can clearly see the remains of the old factory gasket on the pump and a fresh machined surface on the block.

- Is this that $100 dollar fee that marworx was talking about when resurfacing the block with the timing cover attached for correct tolerances? I guess that is a big deal.

Theres no extra work to machine the timing cover with the block.

You put a few bolts in the cover a deck it with the block.

I hope its $100 to deck everything and not $100 for just the pump in that quote.

In this case there was no dropped sleeves??
Because this is one of the issues that I have seen with sleeved blocks..
Which head gasket was used??

*tsk tsk tsk* , that's what I thought. Anyway, you guys will have these motors up and running soon. I got my quote straighten out though, but that was the last thing left on the quote I had a problem with. Thanks for starting that thread.
