hmm not sure if i should bother or not, what kind of power gains/loss could i get from correct / incorrect gap?

For stock motors I run them with a hot range like the 5's I have seen a hair of more power over the 6 heat range. Tested

No as in internally stock motors motors, since the compression is not that high you can use a hotter heat range spark plug, I tested on my car, many times and I got anywhere from 1-2 whp consistent against the #6 plugs. It's a cheap gain. when you dyno look at the afr.
