buy a new one and sell the parts.

SR20VE head setup $600
Oil pump setup $200

You can buy another one between $800-$1000

aftermarket rods and pistons

manley Rods $325
Pistons 12 to 1 pistons $600
VE head gasket $80
Bearings $200

Total $1205 if you know how to build the motor youself.

I agree, buy another VE and sell your old parts. You are going to have to pull the old motor anyway to get the crank out to get it machined, might as well replace it with another motor versus tearing the old one down. Time and money will both be saved

what do you think about an 8 cw crank..det rods..little lower comp pistons...and eventually boost

I know a lot of people don't agree with me on this. However no matter how clean it looks under the VC every motor should be torn down to inspect everything at least if not replace worn parts.

Cool idea, but do you really want to bite off that much to chew?

To an extent. I will do comp test, test oil pressure, pull the pans and check rod bearings. That's what I did when I got my VE, even though I knew the person I bought it from doesn't sell shit parts (Miko). 5 years and over 100k miles later (plus whatever was on the motor before), sees 8-9k almost daily with n1's, and it still runs like a champ.

You can usually tell alot just by looking under the valve cover to see if it was ever starved of oil.

In most cases if these motors pass visual inspection under valve cover / oil pans they will be OK.

I have seen people trust their mechanics to change all bearings, oil pumps, etc, etc with new parts only to come up with a very expensive rod knock.
