Thread: timing for the ve...

so ive always wondered what timing the ve likes....as in moving the distributer...as on my ve has a b13 distributer with one tab cutoff..(and leaks a ll oil)

but what do you guys run?

same way to put in timing mode as a regular de...even tho i have a calum ecu?????

Dyno the car and see. But you can pre-mark 13, 15, 17 degrees on dizzy to save time. Doubt you will go higher than 17 or lower than 13.

15* worked well for me with 60mm catback exhaust

When I went 3" exhaust 13* made most power.

Calum ecu, sr16ve cams, 3" exhaust, SSAC header

i see...very close to my same mods....but is that timing mode rain dance crap still nessecary with the calum??

I'm runnin a nistune ecu and a deleted iacv and a de tb an timing mode does nothin for me any more.. Even using datascan and conzult to force it into timing mode nothin changes.. Car idles rock steady at 825-850 an I can set the timing to what ever I want using a timing light..

Before the iacv delete an de tb mod timing mode worked.. Idk wtf but it doesn't matter lol

Just put a rubber cap on the intake where the iacv goes then put the iacv hose on that.. Thus plugging it.. I wanna make a block off plate to delete the thing completely tho..

I opted for the de highport throttle body because of the whole ve tb screw problem.. I had to loop the tb coolant lines which all I did was used one of the hoses to connect the 2 water ports.. Oh an I didn't feel like spending any more money on crappy ve tps's lol de ones are easy to come by for me an I already had it like I said..

I just dont see a reason for needing the iacv its a worthless waste of space, weight And money..

And how do you idle? Keep the TB open a lil bit?

What would Nistune do when deleting the IACV? How does that work? I'm starting to hate my Calum sooo much, especially since I cant get a v2 now

my idle is perfect at 825-850 and ya i just use the TB adjustment screw to open the TB a tad.. after a few mins of warming up shes good to drive with no issues.. nistune doesnt even seem to notice or care lol..

hey just to let you know the broken tab is on purpose because of the swap. so that you can use the b13 distributor. yeah it does leak a little oil but it never made a difference on the dipstick so it's not too much. i believe the seals need replaced is all.

timing mode is the same procedure, and if i remember correctly i set it at 15* in timing mode with a light to match the calum program.
