Thread: N1 cam break-in

hehehe aight guys, i think i will brake them in just for peace of mind.. 10 mins or so on each lobe.. as for the oil, its prolly gonna have to go a 1000 miles, reason is because im changing it when i change the cams, so it'll be fresh, same with the filter.. an i only use nissan filters im excited!! i'll let yall know what happens heh

But the reason for changing the oil soon after the cams is to flush any metal debris the cams may have thrown out, same as with a freshly built engine. Not for saving purposes, but use non-synthetic common oil for break in.

can i just use the oil i already bought? its quaker state synthetic... it was cheap, thats why i bought it cause i knew i'd have to change it out soon after the install.. but i never read anything about using conventional oil for break-ins..

Just leave the oil thats in the motor right now in there until you swap the cams in, then after a few hundred miles, change it with the QS synth that you just bought.

yeah that sounds like a plan. Since you are only swapping cams it should be OK, just dont go redline every two minutes u drive until you finally swap the oil for the quack state

heheh i went an returned the quaker state for some cheapy walmart oil.. i'd feel tons better about swappin cams if the oil was new i will go get synthetic again after a few hundred miles

The whole break-in period thing is BS.

If you want to cause as little damage to them as possible, use assembly lube at best or engine oil all over the damn things for their first start.

Idling the car at 2k for 20min is ridiculous and of no benefit, just go for a drive normally and you will be doing the same damn thing.

You won't grind the things down if you don't do it right, when the oil system in the vehicle is working properly there is nearly no wear on a cam at all, so if you start it up and just go for a drive it will be golden.

Don't worry about it.
