Thread: N1 cam break-in

i think im going to install my n1's tomorrow, i know how to doit, just wondering how people go about breaking them in.. i know you generally rev the car to 2000 for 20 mins, but since ve's have 2 sets of cams, do you doit to both sets or just the low lobes ?? tia

We just lodged something by my throttle cable bracket and held the idle around 2000-2500 for about 10 minutes. Took her for a quick ride through town and onto the highway into VVL. After that its all smiles.

this what im gonna do. Drop the cams, drive normaly towards the higway and then... jejee full throtle!

What you ask sounds sensible, while I'm sure nobody does it, I guess you could set the VVL switch point to 1500rpms and let it at 2500rpm for ten minutes as well on the high lobes... it's break in too

I would be a little iffy about letting my car idle at 5K for 10 mins, lol. We did it how I described above and its been doing great for a while now. :knocks on wood:

You got me before the edit, I didnt think very well when I posted that, since its better to lower the VVL point and do it.

Of course, yours is working great. I mean I've seen racing motors assembled the night before the race and get fully bblasted next day with no break in... Doesnt mean cams were not going to last more if you did break in, although I'm not really sure about VVL lobes. Im sure nobody does it though

No need for a break in period, throw them in and go! The only thing I would do is change the oil and filter after about 500 miles just to get out all the shavings/imperfections that came off.

I did a break in on mine by holding the throttle at 2500rpm for 10mins on the low lobe and then on the high lobe. Changed the oil after 200 miles of driving.

That's what I do. Idle it at 1500 for a few minutes, and then change the oil after a few hundred miles. Other than that you can basically head directly for PIR after slapping them in there.
