put the thermostat back in. Sounds like the cooling system is over filled or has huge air pockets. I would drain and refill the cooling system per the fsm. I have had my coolant bottle over flow before but it was due to a slightly over filled cooling system.

when my hg blew it boiled the coolant in the overflow tank but never overflowed.

agreed. the radiator is a heat exchanger and with the size and volume it holds it will cool the motor more with the thermostat to stop the flow....worst if the fans are onstanty on. out here it will get to operating temp but it will take longer than normal
