ah yes, almost forgot about the girdle.

Would adding a girlde witht he 4CW crank aid the reliability and remove some of the unwanted effects that a 4cw has, as stated in this thread?

Also, which setup will rob more power? 8cw no girdle or 4cw with girdle?

Doctor G

Running a 4cw has no unreliable affects.

Those that have been expressed - eg bearing lofe - vibration - are not true.

4cw has less mass and hence ptoentially can trasnfer more energy to the flywheel.

Running a crank girdle reduces block twisting. This is caused by high HP and high torque loads. It has nothing to do with 8cv vs 4cw.

Don't listen to Autech, listen to the others.
There is horrendous amount of proof out there on the subject of harmonics in 4cyl 4cw cranks (sometimes referred to as half counterweighted cranks) so how he can say its untrue is beyond me. This information has been around for years.
Whether it would be an issue for your intended setup is another issue entirely and up too you as everyones opinion of reliability differs.

However IMO the fact you ran the number 3 bearing points to exactly that as the harmonic places the most stress on the no 3 bearing. If I were you i'd spring for an 8cw crank and if you want to get the weight down get it lightened. I do however agree that you could run without the girdle if you wanted.

Maybe try get a crank off ebay?

An interesting point that was brought to my attention, that I never noticed or thought about before, is that ALL the SR motos with 8cw cranks are running a girdle from the factory? Does the increased weight add more stress to the block at high rpm neccessitating the girdle?
