Thread: Any pics of modified 16ve pistons?

just wonderd if anyone had any pictures of 16VE pistons with the work to the skirts to stop them smashing the oil squirters in half? i know you need to take 10mm out of the skirt but id like to see the profiles people have had cut out of them..

Stock on the left SR16 on the right. Didn't get any pics of it after it was cut. hope it helps.

would it be a bad idea to turn 10mm (or however much is required to clear the oil squirter) off the bottom of the piston skirt if longetivity wasn't an issue. Certainly couldn't hurt in the weight department. No idea how it'd affect the piston reliability though.
What would be the possible bad side effects?
Slog out the bore quicker? slog out pin bore?

Heard someone using a spacer to lower the squirters would love to see that solution.... Too bad the user took no pics or gave an overview of what to do

Stock SR20 crank 86 mm

Stock SR16 crank 68.9 mm

diffrence is 17.1 mm

This means the spacer would have to at least be 8.5mm thick which is about 5/16 of an inch. The factory oil squirter bolt is not long enough for a spacer that size.

Correct - and even if you could, the angle of the spray would change and not reach the cooling channels in the pistons properly.

Also extending the height frther towards the crank would also risk it coming into contact with a counterweight.

Has anyone ever notched the other (catty corner) side of the piston to balance it after notching for oil squirters?

On a I-4 motor that would not affect balance.

Pistons/rods that ride on the same plane just need to be equal in weight to balance.
