Arguing about this header - and that headers.

if yoru building a header - make it to the cam - then you will see great gains worth the money that you pay.

Its a waste of 1k otherwsie. Your stupid for paying for a big price header if its not made to your cam set. Total absolute waste of time. You would have more chance winning the local meat tray than the header matching your cams specs to give you better scavanging and HP.

^Ok. Sense you say this, what header out right now is best spec'd for a 2.0L fully bolted VE on SR16VE N1 cams? I'm piecing one together. I understand the tune will do the rest of the work.

^I currently have a 4-2-1 ASP budget header on my UK 10.1 bolt-on setup and it seems to be pulling pretty good on stock cams. BC2's + CS cam gears + RT NIStune will see what it is really made of. I think my BC2's will match up well with this header.

i would say through the budget on the ve since you already have it. get a ssac and throw that on the 10:1.

^^^ Agreed. If you're gonna go fully bolted with the VE which I'm assuming will be with cam gears and a 8K redline, the ASP was specifically built for fully bolted VEs that are on stock bottom ends. DEs also benefit too but the SSAC can more than hold it's own on a budget with the DE. Now if there's a plan for serious pistons and headwork in the equation and maybe an overbore, now you're talking about a serious custom 4-1 header to get the most out of the build, especially in the upper rpm range that may reach as high as 9K with the N1 & bigger cams. Until we see the results from the Protech the ASP budget, SSAC & the custom built 4-1 headers seem to be the frontrunners for now, at least here in the states. Reese if you are planning to do 12:1 or higher pistons and going 8.5K or higher with your fully bolted VE setup start saving for that custom header and a good tune for it. JMO.

Give me the specs of the header - choke, collector size, primary dia, priomary length, port length port width. Ill give you the forumla.

Right now bang for buck SSAC has got the numbers on the board. All the rest who claim this and that have variable between motors.

Like a said - a header needs to be made specifically to a cam and engine setup.

^Seriously? I don't need not a tissue. Sounds like you have problems of your own that you need to work on. Then you tell use we haven't learnt, pffffffff. Man there are guys doing big things with the VE. Just chill out and built your motor.



^I'll get a 4-1. I actually have a SSAC sitting in storage that I've never used. I was going to put that on the DE, but I decided to use the 4-2-1 when my plans changed on my future VE build. I want to go 12.5:1. I will leave the head work stock. I don't think the gains would be enough for the money N/A on a 2.0L bottom end.

Ok. Now don't take this as any kind of negativity or critisism.. I am genuinly curious what specs you think suit a high comp 2.0 w N1 cams? Id like to see how our designs differ.. do you have some software or is this just some trial and orror stuff you've seen?

Reese, looking forward to your build. Will this be a pump gas motor? Stock intake? Possible Franklin 184C cams? PM me, let's talk VEs. I'd love to do something similar to yours but AZ emissions is holding me back. I've got a Snickers' 4-1 header from the Greg V group buy a few years back and want to use it but need to find a combo of mods that's emission friendly. Not easy, especially on 91 pump gas. Autech, all of us are just trying to find out what works best, R&D and dyno runs are the basics to see if a particular bolt-on works especially a header. We know about the bang for the buck success of the SSAC but for hi-comp builds most know that it won't fit the bill if you're looking to get the most out of what you have, N1s or higher. Variables are just part of the equation and the formula you have we assume has been tested thoroughly and is consistent in it's results no matter what variables are present. Not taking sides, just didn't know that a formula exists.

i've played round with 20ve in a program called EAP for a couple weeks now. If you want to pm me cory i'll get some more info of your setup and see if I can reproduce it in EAP, if so I can then have a play round with intake and exhaust lengths and see if theres some more in it.
I've got calcs for intake lengths and exhaust lengths coming out my @ss but they differ to what the ve likes in the EAP so it hard to say how accurate the program is until i've replicated a proven setup (eg yours)
