A stockish ve makes peak power @ 7200rpm or there about. Revving higher makes you stay in ypur powerband when racing (shifting).

With mods, even if you peak @ 7500rpm, revving to 8500 or even 9000 would help you to stay in that powerband when you shift.

Also depends on the shape of your graph as well - how much power you making @ rpms above your peak vs power you make @ rpm before your peak.

Peace

Yeah I just know from the subie world that a lot of the guys are shifting too high and are actually cutting slower times. I think I'll try and follow the 8500 + or - guideline on my setup. Thanks for the info.

Yea there is a huge difference between a peaky na 2.0 and a relatively small sized turbo 2.0+ motor. They have much more usable low end/midrange

This is a good thread. Now I'm sure I can run SR16VE N1 cams on my stock SR20VE springs+retainers @ 8500 rpm max.

Same here.

3 years with stock valve springs and retainers. ECU limited to 8000 rpm max. No troubles so far.
