i revved my old motor w\sr16 cams nd stock s&r to 8,500 with no problems until i feeled a little more confortable revving past 9,000 nd one time i missed 2nd nd POOF gone . SR motors can take a hell of a beating but if you really love your motor is better to go with aftermarket s&r IMO!

Same here, N1s and stock S&Rs for over 3 years now. No issues whatsoever, 8K redline.

I dont think it is safe to go over 8500 RPMs but I am concervative. I think you really need to watch out once you go messing around with the cam gears

ok let me just put it out there and ask for your recommendations

my motor is sr20ve with n1 cams, cs cam gears +2,-2 (calum board tuned with greddy emanage)
I actually dropped valves (exhaust) on cylinder number 2 three weeks ago running stock s&r i do believe the car went over 8.5k (i'm using aftermarket tach that reads dead on with the dyno) before the incident i could here the valves float at around 8300rpm so i would shift at 8k on my tach. i'm not disputing whats possible because it has happened already,

what i'm asking is i'm in the process of rebuilding already have bc1030 dual valve springs brand new and was thinking of getting more compression with n1 pistons, but i'm using 20v metal head gasket. should i get rid of the cam gears and run straight up for safety? i am going to 9k rpms with a 4-1 header (to be custom made). also i use the laughing gas (N2O) will a fresh set of 2.0ve rings accept 120shot of nitrous staged (my limitation is 90 octane 10% ethanol blend)

The reliefs in the n1 pistons are plenty big enough for you to play around with cam timing with n1 cams. Also, I'm pretty sure the compressed thickness of the metal gasket is thicker than stock.

I'm not sure how well that compression with nitrous would work out if it truly is 90oct.
