VE wont start
Hello all,

I recently swapped over a sr20ve into my b13. I have a few mods:

98 sr20ve
ssac 2.5'' header
custom 3'' wai
n60 maf
jwt pop-charger
outlaw thermoblock spacers
NIStune ecu (programmed for mods)

My b13 has been sitting for almost 2 years until just a few days ago when I tried to turn it on. It had very little gas and showed empty on the cluster. So I added 4 gals. of 91 octane. I am getting both fuel and spark. Everything is connected. The motor cranks but wont start.

When I crank it a few times, it POPS! Sounds like a damn m-80 exploding.

I tried a buddy's nistune ecu aswell but nothing. we tried both our ecu's on his car and they work like a charm.

The motor has new VE spark plugs and distributor cap. I will be replacing the fuel filter and rotor tonight.

Any suggestions?

thanks.

Make sure your spark plug wires are installed correctly. If you say it is popping that may be the reason why.

It may be possible you have your fuel lines backwards as well. Not sure though since you say you hear a loud pop. Just a thought because that was something I did by accident with my VE swap.

You mean plugged in correctly? I'll double check it but I did put them on right.

Not backwards. They're good. I compared them to my boy's ve ser and They're good. Thanks for the help guys.

Hmmm. My VE is such a pain in the cold mornings to start. I also hear a loud pop as I am feeding a little throttle to get it to fire up. Did you try hittin the gas as you were cranking? Mine takes seriously about 30 times turning over before it will fire up. After that its fine. MAF wiring is good? Tried maybe regrounding it?

Yes i tried hitting the gas several times and also sprayed carb cleaner in the throttle body. It seems it wants to fire up but it just doesnt turn over.

The maf is good. My boy re-wired it up to ensure the maf was good.

This is bothering me because I am trying to think about everything possible. The only other thing I can think of was guys accidentally plugging the ignitor into the O2 sensor clip and the O2 sensor into the ignitor clip on the harness. They both look the same oval shaped 3 pin connector. If I happen to think of anything i'll throw it out there. Good luck bro!

So you swapped this 2 years ago and it ran back then, now it doesnt?

If it never ran, how is the itm, pcv valve, and such? Maybe theres not enough air or too much air beiing pulled in such as somethings plugged up.

If it's popping, it could be something with timing. Make sure everything is good with that.

No. I just swapped it in a couple of weeks ago. The CAR itself has been sitting for almost 2 years. All vacuum hoses were either replaced for new ones or inspected to make sure they were good.

I'm going to check everything in timing tonight. I'll update with results later tonight. Thanks fellas.
