The only thing I dont understand is when you say that you like longer gears at least third, imo, shorter will give you maximun push along the racetrack,

Shorter gears will give better results no dought. But the thing is that all we have are sr16 and b15 trannys wich have good short 1-2-3 gears but having to shift to fourth will hurt the et's more than just staying in 3rd because fourth gear is still to long for an N/A setup.Thats why Andreas was trying to get some custom fourth gears made.A B15 tranny with a custom fourth gear is the way to go with the power that he is making. If he dosn't do anything with the fourth gear the best thing is to stay with the SE-R tranny and try a taller slick if he crosses the line upto high in his power band.

SER Gear box with Sicks 24.5in at 8500 RPMs

1. 3.063 = 48 MPH
2. 1.826 = 81 MPH
3. 1.286 = 115 MPH

G20T 94-96 gear box with Slick 23in at 8500 RPMs

1. 3.063 = 45 MPH
2. 1.826 = 76 MPH
3. 1.207 = 115 MPH

In my opinion the G20T gear box with the 23in slick will be faster. Motor has lots of torque so pulling the lonhg third gear is no problem.

His car will run 12.1 @ 114 MPH with the G20T gear box

Thanx for running that quick miko. I'm at work so I couldn't do it now. Looks like the 24 will be just right! Honestly that's such a minimal diff in those trannys ill just stick w the de boxes I have stock piled until I come accross one. I'm kinda excited to also because the taller slick will help me out of the hole. Man this will be interesting this Sunday. Hopefully the 24.5s fit ok with out having to raise the car up.

Oh nvm.. I just realized that's with diff slicks. 23 vs 24.5... hmmm that's interesting. I gujess ill have to try that out.

That 5 MPH in second is a big diffrence and you will be in third gear quicker.
SO The G20T for the win

depending on how low your car is you might have to raise it up to fit the 24.5, i know i had to a little bit, And then depending on how wide of a slick you use and your wheel offset you might run into rubbing on the strut/coilover whatever your running. My 25X8.7X13 slick was rubbing on the side of the strut just a bit, A small spacer took care of that.

The 24.5X7X13 i was using didnt rub at all. Just had to raise the car up about 1 1/2 inches to get it to clear just fine.

With the power your making the 24.5 might be a bit big but its hard to say. Hell the 22" slicks i was running were still gripping decent with the 461whp i was making turbo. But again you loose out on the gearing. Like miko said a 23" slick is probably your best bet. But you might be able to get away with a 24 or 24.5. Just keep the pressure up a bit to help out with topend.

Good luck cory and cant wait.

No the 23 will not work out very well because ill have to shift into 4th.. yeah I agree the 24 are big for my whp but it will set me up just about right to run through the trap at or close to my peak whp which is exactly where I want to be. Ill be trying diff sizes to see what actually works best. Who know maybe I only trap 11w. Then the 23 will be great..

Make sure you get some vids Cory.

I am very happy this set up gave you some nice results. Way to step it up and get out of the stock motor mentality that many FWD SR guys have.
