Race gas + Stock VE + Turbo
Hey guys, lets talk about race gas. Wondering what you think is the max amount of boost on C16. This will be with a medium sized turbo, something around a GT3071R or a GT30R.

On pump, i believe the max to be 12psi.

On race, i believe the max to be 18psi.

Any problems with this?

I think your probably in the right ballpark.. I guess jp for one has really shown us that with the right gas and keeping detonation at bay stock ves can rock

Ya.... the point is that mechanically the motor held it just fine. Like I said as long as there is no detonation its been proven to hold a lot of power.

Id say just get it on a dyno and make your low boost runs, logging making sure your all good. Then with the race gas just keep upping it and adj timing until the motors comp ratio gets in the way and your not making any improvments.. although setting a boost limit to be safe is probably a good idea so you don't get too power hungry.

Good luck I think c16 will allow for a decent amount of psi..

If your trying to say meth is what kept the motor together id say no your wrong. The meth played a huge part in making almost 600whp, but not so much of a part in keeping the motor together. Without meth you'll just have to run less ign advance, and yess make less power but the point is the motor took the pressue on the ring lands and rods just fine......

He's asking if it will hold up, not if it will make 600whp on 18psi

Right, meth will help it hold up when you want to go crazy with the boost correct?

Id agree. I was way surprised too. But I guess it also goes to show it has a lot to do with the curve and the tq aswell. As far as what a part is "good for"

Dave,

Stock VE's hold a great amount of power. My friend back home was boost 16+ PSI on E85 in his stock block VE and the car went 11.9 at 119 mph on drag radials. People tend to sail stock VE's short. With good tuning they do very damn well.

I can not stress enough how important a good tune is. I am not talking about slapping on a programed ECU and ride. I mean some good quality street or dyno tune.

You're right. It's easy to forget that torque is the problem with bending rods.
