What fuel to use in a high compression VE?
Right,

I have an SR16VE with SR20DE rods and crank, but with SR16VE pistons.

I've done some research, and according to some sources that would get me a CR of 12:1. However, other sources claim it to be 13.5:1

So, which CR is the right one?

And for both CRs, what's the MINIMUM RON I need to use for it to run properly? Will RON98 suffice? Or would I have to find fuel with at least RON100?

Thanks!

I can only give you from US numbers.

97-98 octane will work fine on 13 to 13.5 to 1.

93-95 octane is perfect for cars 12 to 12.5 to 1

Hope Dre doesn't mind the assist.

US octane is (RON + MON)/2 which is an average of both ratings.

97-98 in US octane is approx. 103 RON
93-95 in US octane is approx. to 98 RON

had to make a thread for that question it reminded me of something I wanted to ask awhile back.

E85?

Thanks for the replies.

E85 isn't widely available in The Netherlands, plus I would need to upgrade the fuel system.

Still need to know what CR I have

So, if it turns out I have 13.5:1 CR, I think it's best to take out the SR16VE pistons .

I still need to know what my compression is . I tried calculating it with this thread:

http://www.sr20-forum.com/vvl/23787-20v-16ve-pistons-cr-2.html

And this calculator:

Engine Compression Ratio (CR) Calculator

And I get a CR of 12.6:1 ??

Most of us rely on Dre for that type of info.
The best I can do is calculate the compression ratio if you give me all the data.
Bore, stroke, volume of combustion chamber (head), volume of piston dish/dome.

Well, that's all in that thread. That guy used 16VE pistons in a 20VE motor as well. But the thing is, everyone gets different results. Hell, I think even Andreas came up with both 12:1 and 13.5:1.

I never said SR16VE pistons in a SR20VE is 12 to 1.
