to cam gear or not?
I have N1's coming and I was wondering if I should cam gear or not? Is it worth it?

If so what would be the best setting?

where do you want your power?

0,0 max top end power from 6K-9K means you will get extra engine wear but will be great for drag racing pretty sad low cam power.

Street i would recomend +3,-3, +2,-2 or similar gives a massive gain across majority of power curve, power dies off by 8K so less wear on the motor.

Max you can run is +5,-5 power will die of around 7-7.5K a bit more midrange then above but this lower peak power will affect drag times a great deal

On my exact setup +3,-2. I saw a 10-15wkw gains in ceartian spots around 3-5K and a average of about 7wkw over the whole graph on n1 cams. Makes the power very meaty even on low cam. 13.9 second pass also

Thats a great and very informative answer. I really appreciate it.
Looks like i will grab a set and see what I like personally.....although the whole reason i bought using N1's is to get some sick topend, so I will try 0,0 first and see what happens.

btw the first number i am assuming is the intake and the second the exhaust cam right? Just want to be positive, thats all.
thanks

Why spend the money on N1 cams and then not get the gears??
I remember not long ago,you were saying the N1 were not worth it,and you were gonna stick with SR16 cams....pfft,I see them for sale,LOL
Obviously you want more than the sr16 cams give.Eventually you will want more than the N1 cams will do straght up.I say get the gears, and put them on so you dont have to take the cams out again....you are only talking 150 bucks tops.

Well.......i guess you noticed i get bored easily..lol I really did think i was going to stay with the sr16's, but i was reading and found that there was a nice gain over the sr16's compared to the N1's.
Yes i will buy the cam gears....i mean like u said why not???? I do have some things to take care of first and then the cam gears.

oh and after the n1's will come sr16 pistons with the 1mm shaved out of the valve landings, then a upgraded headgasket, head studs, maybe even eagle rods for the 75 wet shot I plan to spary.

Before all that stuff above i really need to finally grab a ASP 4-1 header with the reverse megaphone.

and meanwhile i am about to build a turbo motor for my DD g20...
busy, busy, busy.

Its funny bro because your actually doing what I am doing. I'm running my N1 cams straight up at 0,0. Once in VVL (set for 5,800), the car pulls like an animal from there to 9K. I recently started spraying and it is loving it. Also, I hear the ve rods are as strong as DE rods so they should hold some good power. I want to do the same with my setup but have been looking into some CP pistons for a semi-build over the winter. Idk, cam gears would not be bad but I know the cams with stock cam gears are amazing. I went from stock 20ve cams to N1's so I'm not sure how much of a difference you'll feel coming from the SR16 cams. Good luck man!

What header are you using? I am really wanting a 4-1 and I was also thinking about the cp's too, but the sr16's with the 1mm shaving are way more within my "family guy" budget especially since I already own a set. As is the ssac

I need some OT
