SR20VE Lumpy Idle???
Hey Guys,

I've got a bit of a silly question, but was just wondering about it and would
like to know. Here goes::o

Can I give my SR20VE (stock cams) lumpy idling, by engaging the high cams
at idle? I've got a stand alone management system, so I can do it.

I was thinking of engaging them from about 700rpm to 1100rpm and then
again at 4800rpm or what ever suits the motor best (still building it).
Would it work and sound nice or not?

Please dont attack me, it was seriously just a thought as I love the sound
of a SR with a lumpy idle.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

PS: My management system has two maps that I can choose from while I
drive, so I'll have a street map for good economy and a race map and I'll only
do the lumpy idle thing with the race map.

Ricer alert

edit

I don't think it's possible because of too little oil pressure and no WOT.

For the most part im pretty nice, but im gonna give it to you straight. This is a terrible, horrendous, possible the worst idea in the world just shy of a cardboard body kit.

You can engage the cams at idle, but it'll run like poo. I engaged my cams at idle before I hooked up my MSD switch just to make sure they worked, and it ran like poo and wanted to die on me. You'll probably have to adjust your map so it'll stay running at those rpms, but I wouldn't bother. The main point of having a VE is the sleeper effect, so people don't know what's coming. At least it is for me.

I would say get a DE with S5's if you want the lumpy idle, I think that at the end of this week your going to be wondering " what was I thinking?"

Hey Guys,

Well..... thanx for being honest. LOL

I realize this is a stupid idea, I was really just wondering if its
possible. If you read my post you'll see that I was just wondering if its
possible from a technical point of view and I just mentioned my setup
as I didnt want a reply saying: "It cant be dont with a stock ECU and
window switch" ect.

And just for the record...I'M NO RICER
No car enthusiast can say they dont like the sound of a stripped out
NA race car thats standing in the pits idling after a few hot laps.
THAT'S when I love the lumpy idle sound

Anyway, thats me

Or you can install a set of Toda vtec killer cams.

Yea lumpy idle sounds is cool, When it serves a purpose. Its like having a fake blow off valve. You just look retarded unless it serves a purpose.

Like carrying a gun with no bullets.

my buddies VE with n1 cams set to +5,-5 has a nice lope to it at idle on the low lobes.

But yeah those lobes are way too big and not to mention at idle the engine doesnt make enough oil pressure to keep the vvl engaged properly. My buddies motor did this when we hooked up his Calum realtime V2 with VVL trigger and there was an error with the board causing the VVL to stay triggered, It took me a couple minutes to figure out why the car wouldnt idle and why it was making this intermittent loud tick/knock under the valve cover at idle. It was the fact the rocker didnt have strong enough oil pressure to keep the middle lobe engaged so it kept slipping halfway through the down push of the lobe and then slipped causing the low lobe side to slap against the lobe of the cam.

Not pretty sounding. haha. It actually cause it to lose a shim on one side of one rocker.

So yeah not a good idea.
