VVL cuts out(fixed, but new question...)
EDIT: Problem solved. It was my RPM signal. My write up is updated with the correct wire to splice into for the RPM signal. Thanks to everyone who helped.

I know I saw a thread on this recently, but I can't seem to find it...

I just wired up my E60 MAF and was finally able to REALLY drive my car. I took it around the block and did a 2nd gear pull. As the cams engaged it started to pull pretty hard, but the were cutting in and out.

This is how I wired up my MSD switch: http://www.sr20-forum.com/howtos/24037-how-wire-up-your-msd-rpm-activated-switch-your-vvl.html

I would just look at the other thread about this problem, but I cannot find it.

What would cause this problem?

TIA
Lance

I would pull off the solenoids and clean them out with something like carb cleaner. They could get full of gunk from sitting in warehouses. Also, make sure all wire connections are tight and secure. My car used to cut in and out but once I did those two things it has pulled strong all the way up to 9K. Good luck!!

I solder all my connections. The only one that might be a problem would be the ground, but idk.

Before I pull the solenoid block off, does it use a gasket or is it siliconed?

There is a metal gasket between the housing and the head. Also you might not be getting a good enough rpm signal from the dist, try from the gauge cluster or at the ecu.

A bad signal would cause it to cut out like that?

Yep.

which pin on the ecu is the rpm signal? I've searching like hell to find ANY wiring diagrams in the FSM for the ECU and plugs for the dash harness and can't find anything...

What car do you have

A weak ground can do the same thing, as it happened to me. Grounded the 8969 to the negative terminal on the battery and all is well. Also get your RPM signal from the ecu, the most reliable source.

That's what I'm going to be doing today. While I'm in the car repinning my dash harness for the SE-R guage cluster, I'm gonna splice into the tach signal from the ECU for the switch.
