How does cutting off the ears effect the reliability of the distributor?

I have a B13 distibutor on my 20V for 5 years now with no leaks or any problems. I have done many this way for B13s and B14s with no issues.

Putting on a B15 distributor allows a person to readily have parts for their distributor, if the distributor goes bad they can just put on another one.

I personally would prefer messing with the distributor than the harness.

Idk Dre, having only one bolt holding the distributor seems like trouble to me. Soldering in the plug seems much more efficient.

There are many engines that have one bolt for the dist.

There will be zero issues with only one bolt holding the distributor. I have not heard of any VE guys having issues. Let alone we have swapped well over 10 VE cars and all their distributors are held on by one bolt.

Yeah this is a fact. Between the two forum no one has had any issues what so ever with one bolt holding the distributor.

The write up is finished and awaiting mod aproval.

There may not be any issues with it, but I'd rather have it look clean and like it's supposed to be there.

From the "old" forum, July 30, 2002.

Ok Shoe59 and BigTom you are the guys with the B13 to VE hookup, so I am calling you guys out to do your SR20DEForum.com civic duties. Anyone seeing this post lets help get one of these guys to post this info.

Thanks Andreas Miko

Dre, even you have been wanting a write up for the B13 since Chuck first did the B14 write up in 02. I just figured that now that there is a write up for both the B13 and B14 that more people will be willing to use the VE distributor instead of cutting the DE distributor to fit. Plus the newer tech, lower mileage VE distributors that come on the VE should be more reliable than the DE technology that was produced 20 years ago.

I'm just giving VE guys more options than just the old DE distributor.

wanting a writeup for the B13 has nothing to do with me wanting to go that way. I just want as much options open to everyone as possible. I still like the way I do it. Also as proven there is no negative effect by running one bolt and as stated before many cars come with a dizzy with one bolt.

And now we have it, a write up for the B13 and B14. Plus Greg V sells VE distributors, so it's not like we have to worry about finding a new one if it fails.

Well I for one am pleased there will be a writeup. No sense having a de dizzy and a ve one without being able to use the ve one as a backup because there's no R&D done. It's not that I'm lazy, I'm kind of gunshy when it comes to wiring stuff - calum ecus are not easy to comeby and if something goes wrong because of a wiring issue, I'd be PISSED.

Yea, see I would like to use the VE dizzy not for any benefit than preference.

A- Its made for the motor.
B- Newer technology regardless of if its better or not.
C- I dont like cutting the ear off the dizzy. Even if it doesnt affect it, i just dont like having it rigged in that fashion. I would rather just use the VE.
