Still not ready to throw in the towel. I remember that I put the N1s in at the same time I did ignition. My next step is to see if they are in correctly. I was careful putting them in right but I think it is possible I jumped a tooth on start up. I know valve timing being off can cause detonation. I am just starting to think that it is not the ignition. I rechecked all my wiring and even took the distributor apart and mad sure there were no shorts at where i made the external trigger. I also retarded timing again and put octane booster in the gas as an experiment and it still detonates. I may end up sending ignition to MSD to have them test it and see if it is working properly.

Well for anyone out there reading this and still curious. I am 90% sure my cam timing is off. How do I know this? I opened the distributor and took the LED sloted disc and flipped it over. This advanced the point at witch the cam position sensor thinks I am at cylinder 1 TDC. I started the engine and it had very little power but no detonation at all. I advanced the ignition timing to the max and the car performed at what felt like 85% power. So I know now by doing this something is off with the valve timing and the ignition timing. MSD seems at this point to be doing exactly what it should. I will should know 100% whats up this weekend when I have the time to open her up and check the timing.
