I love my VE's. But I don't think you can write off the DE completely.
My bro in law has a built DE and it runs just as strong as a mildly worked VE. Except is has more torque.
The other thing that is strange is that the VE's put out higher HP numbers on the dyno than a DE, but on the street a 150whp DE will be just as fast as a 175whp VE somehow. Maybe from 4th gear the VE will edge ahead. But other than that it is pretty equal. We've seen this quite often. Strange but true. Don't know why.
Something the US VE guys don't like doing, is skimming/shaving the head. We recently saw that a bone stock VE with 0.5mm off the head makes the exact same power as a bone stock VE with 16ve cams.
