Thread: CAI vs WAI: Myth?

heres something i've been wondering, i have a old school stillen cai, its the kind that only goes from the maf to filter, so i bought a short ram from ebay, the thing is the short ram piece is 3" and the cai part is 2.5", i use the DE maf which is pretty small to start with..

it seems to breath well and run strong, the ebay short ram is pretty thin but doesnt get very hot, the cai part seems to stay pretty cool to but is much thicker and is mandrel bent, also the part where the filter attachs is like 4" and is bowl shaped..

what are your guys thoughts with this setup?

bringing this back a little with some new information or at least some data. the last couple of days i have been doing some riding around with my VE powered b13 and logging some info for tuning. i have been keeping an eye on my ait with my new lovely GM ait sensor. with a WAI setup and the out side temps being mid 80's with mid-low humidity (don't know if that matters) i am getting between 95-120 deg temps. 110-120 when i am driving around town with decent lights but no real traffic average speed 30-35 mph. on the high way my ait would drop after just a min or 2 to low 100's and after about 10 minuets of 65-70 mph it would settle around 95-98 deg. short WOT bursts on the high way wouldn't change the AIT much at all maybe up 2-5 deg. i didn't do any wot in town but i would imagine short bursts would yield similar temps maybe 2-3 deg more at most.

thats interesting, you should try that with the full cai.

anyone ever seen a N/A honda runnin an intercooler with a filter on one side? i wonder what thats about, i've always just called em interfoolers but i wonder if it could actually help?

I don't think it would, plus even if it did surely your intake length would be so long that you'd actually lose power anyway. But i'm not surprised your saw it on a honda.

On a SOHC no less. lol.
