I see now! I actually have the "KIT", which includes the notched drive spacer. I could definitely see how the smaller "spacer" would cause a problem...

^Thanks Ben. That second link is still available is it? If so, what would it be good for if it is causing problems?

ALSO

The pick-up tube differs between FWD and AWD (GTI-R, Avenir, Bluebird) motors. At this time only the FWD pick-ups are in stock. If you have a GTI-R motor, you don't need the updated pickup. Any other AWD motor, the pick-up must be modified to fit the larger flange on the VVL oil pump.

^From GregV's site. Why is he saying that in bold if the tube comes with the kit? What do you have to do to it what you instead this on a DE?

The spacer is still available I believe. Greg has just gone through the process of modifying all of them to make sure they will work in all installations. If you order that spacer, you should get one that looks a bit different than the one in the picture.

If, for some reason you come across an unmodified one, they still have their use. They work fine (and have been for a long time) on DE engines, allowing them to run a VE Pulley (Greg's light weight pulley usually) which was their original purpose. It's just when you pair it with the VE oil pump, you get into trouble.

But the $350 Kit including VE Oil Pump, Spacer and Pulley comes with the right spacer?

I bought this one and am afraid now, but its on and dont remember about this...

^Dang. So I guess it is not a good idea to run the VE pump with GSpec crank pulley on a DE?

Yes. This kit (from what I see of the pictures) comes with a new oil pump drive that is longer than the DE unit and just as long as the OEM VE unit. This isn't really a spacer in my opinion, it is an entirely new oil pump drive, which is why there's some confusion. It shouldn't be called a spacer, but oh well.

Yes, the "kit" comes with the right piece. You'll be fine.

The problem exists with any pulley. It's not the pulley that is the problem, it is the spacer.

It is still a good idea to run a VE oil pump on a DE. It is still a good idea to run a G-Spec crank pulley on a DE. The spacer's original purpose was to allow those with DE's to run Greg's VE pulley (probably so he could save himself the effort of making two different pullies). This way his VE pulley because universal.

It's all still a good idea.

Just make sure that if you run a VE oil pump that you make sure you do it right. That's always meant getting a VE crank pulley (or equivalent aluminum pulley) and either the longer VE oil pump drive, or a spacer for your DE oil pump drive. It just means that you have to make sure if you don't buy the G-Spec kit, and piece it together yourself using the G-Spec spacer, that you get a spacer that's been modified. Greg knows about the problem and isn't selling the old spacers anymore, so there shouldn't a problem there. If for some reason you come across an old spacer, or are thinking about making your own, just make sure you make it so it matches the shape of the oil pump drive. If it doesn't, when you tighten down the crank bolt, it pushes the pulley and spacer into the oil pump ruining it. This is because the VE oil pump is maybe 10mm deeper than the DE oil pump. It sticks out farther and gets crushed by the spacer.

It will all be clear and make a lot more sense once I get some pictures I have hosted. Maybe wait for that. =/

Again, it's not a bad idea to do the VE oil pump, or anything like that. We just need to make sure we avoid this minor problem that at least two of us have ran into.

How many of you guys are running VE oil pumps on your DE's?

Also how many of you have built VE blocks?
