Thread: Gspec/UR crank pulley - reliability issues?

Anyone here been running an aluminium crank pulley on a VE and revving to 8.5k-ish daily?

I want to know if there are any issues with that. Please mention if you're running a 4 or 8cw crank and a crank girdle or not.

I decided not to run them ,for reliability since I drive 20,000+ miles a year and love to rev the doo doo out of my VE.
IBased on my searches,etc. I decided the tradeoff of a few horses was worth my engine possibly lasting longer.

dont think im goin that route any more......

I have run the UR pulley on countless motors. I currently have one on my DET which has had 50k boosted miles. I drive about 135 miles a day. I have never seen one fail actually on all the cars I have installed them on.

But, on the VE, with the G-spec, I just don't see the issue there. No one has had failure from it, just speculation.

I do. But i've only run it for about 1.5 weeks now. Haha.

But i've run several engines with lightweight pullies on them. All were fine.

I was going to stay out of this since you seemed very specific in the information you wanted. You wanted to know if anyone has had any issues (failed crankshaft being the only real, possible issue) and if they had, what were the conditions the failure happened under. I was actually hoping you'd get zero responses, and you'd realize that was because no one has ever had any issues.

I totally agree with you,thats why I posted my thread too.

I believe it would be pretty hard to have an engine failure that you could say was 100% caused by pulleys.
My personal choice was not to run the pulley on my VE was because of the 4cw crank.I neesd this engine to last as long as possible.It sucks to break down out here in BFE...lol

I also posted my response with an opening disclaimer that my reply might not help..

I just pulled a 180K mile DE apart with a crank pulley and wp pulley kit. Cyl 1 and 3 rod bearings were worn down to the copper, and nearly spun. I was curious why this was so, but now that I think about it I guess it could have been the unorthodox pulley.

that being said, I have not had any issues in my sentra bouncing the rev limiter at 7800rpm for 15K miles. I will have a more definitive answer for you next season though. I will be looking closely at rod bearing wear.


I have had issues with overheating and blowing head gaskets when the stock unit tears, rendering the accessories useless. Pick your poison. Most would say the harmonic balancer is not required, so, to each his own.

i have 9lbs flywheel and g spec pulleys on my n1 dont see any issues as of yet ... just the fact that after i tuned the neo alittle i cant stop punching it and watching the revs fly
