Mine doesn't smoke a bit. The only time I noticed oil loss was during the first 500 miles. I was using regular Castrol 5w30. Had to add about a QT. After about 700 miles on the conventional oil, I drained it and went to Castrol Syntec 5w30. Almost 2,000 miles later, I haven't lost a drop of oil.
