Am I missing step 6.5 "Let car sit over night" from the MSUSM (make sh!t up service manual)? No... Hmmm sounds like you are supposed to check warm.

Something is wrong with your buddies STI. They don't do that normally.

the dip stick sits in the pan, oil takes a while to get to the pan after the engine has been running, im not sayin to just let it sit over night, usualy once the motors cool all the oil has found its way back to the pan, maybe some of the engines i've had, have had clogged oil passages or something its possible.. but still i've seen people over fill they're engine due to checkin it while engine was hot i havent done it personely.. maybe they're just jack asses..

Well in my experience a DE (B13 or B14) will do about 32-34mpg on similar trips if its in tune. VE is 36-38 but more is possible.

Dude you don't get it....

You check it warm because the oil hasn't all made it back to the pan... Like when the engine is running... You don't care how much oil is in the pan when it all drains back.

first time iv EVER heard that **** man! so how much oil is in your car when its been sat overnight?

the service manuals i have all say the car needs 3.9 litres of oil if i put 3.9 in straight and let it drain guess what its on full.. take it for a spin and it wont be anywhere near full so are you saying i should top it up with another 2 litres????

ya i think he's smokin something, but he could be right.. im not going to argue with him over it but the way i was taught (by folks who been workin on cars for 30 years) was to check the oil while the car was cool.. an after an oil change run the engine to operating temp, then let it cool.. then check oil.. i think if we were suppose to check our oil like how u check auto tranny fluid he'd be right.. but who checks they're oil with the engine running?? not me..

thats what i have done on all my cars because i have been told to do buy a bunch of guys who turn the wrench for a living. oh and back in 2003 when Nissan was having a lot of issues with the specv's burning oil they were blaming it on people checking the oil when hot and adding a qt to 2 more than what was recommended

you guys are arguing about something as simple as checking your effing oil level.

thats exactly what im talkin about, i've been around cars all my life, thats how i was taught.. an ya like i said, i've seen people over fill they're engines cause they checked it hot lol, i dont think this would of turned into such a big deal had that dude just kept his opinions to himself..
