Thinking of building a new VET
Just throwing this out there in case mine blows up from running too much boost. I have a roller rocker just chillin here, a customer spun a rod bearing so we put a new engine in and kept this one. I bought it for $100. I was thinking of doing a solid 400whp on pump just like my current engine. Something like VET pistons and GTIR rods would be awesome but I don't know where to get these.

I will be putting my current VET back together on thursday if possible. About a week and a half ago I ran the engine without oil and fried all the rod bearings causing the engine to seize. After tearing her down the bearings are toast, the big end of the rods are discolored. I am going to reuse these rods to see if they can handle the power still. But the big end of the pauter's are black from the heat. I had them inspected and the shop said they are straight and balanced. The engine seized without breaking a rod so I am going to use the pauters again and see what kind of abuse they can handle though they are discolored and rebored.

Before I go on rambling, the build is going to have 1.2 bar, VE crank pulley from Greg V, some cam gears to fix cam timing issues, new motor mounts and a few other goodies.

Hopefully this motor can handle 17+ psi of boost when it goes back in on friday. If not, I will blow it up and build the RR engine block and throw a ve head on it.

Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat as you, sorta! I got the VET built but didn't think it was wrong to re-use the 80k mile head bolts! Of all things to overlook! Anyways, car is smoking more than usual.

So, I happen to still have my already tapped B15 RR block, with GTiR pistons laying around. Need to buy the rest of the parts tho (ve oil pump, crank, rods, bearings, oil pans (I can't find mine for some reason), etc etc). But will start building that to then just swap shortblocks down the road.

GL man!

I have a VE oil pan if you want it. Let me know. Maybe 25 and shipping its yours. I checked with pauter and they rate the rods for over 200hp per rod. The tech there said that the discoloration is normal when the rods get to around 400-500 degrees but they are already heat treated so it would take about 1200-1500 degrees to hurt the metal. He said to check them for warping. So they look square and will be getting reused! The black on the big end was from oil that had cooked on there. Nothing the parts cleaner didn't fix. After cleaning they barely have any discoloration. I will polish the pistons and put them back in.

Ready for round 3.

Also just for you guys to know. I have been getting my parts from greg V for a while now and he is one of the best! He has really been there to help me out when I need it the most. I couldn't ask for better service the guy is just awesome! Thank you GREG!

If you know that the VE oil pan fits on a RR block, I'll take it! (Upper and lower?)

And, I got my VE head from Greg, along with oil pump and many many many misc parts. He's a parts whore! LOL

Aren't OEM SR head bolts stretch type? If so, no matter the amount of miles, you cannot reuse them once they have been screwed in. They are not like ARP bolts...
