video of my SR16VE
YouTube - N15 Almera saloon SR16VE conversion

so this is in my N15 saloon full interior everything just a swap

SSauto manifold standard cat then 60mm side exit exhaust fabefd up yesturday
STD flywheel
carbon airbox
Standard SR16VE ECU with standard activation points

you can see the exhaust only kicks in at the factory 6700RPM it seems very high and changing gear your straight back out of it being on both cams..

would sorting it so the ECU activated both solenoids at 5600RPM by joining earths to the intake make any difference in power or just make it noisyer for longer?

i realise i ened a better exhaust and header.. and i also want a different intake as the box is ****..

cheers
Ian

Rom tune or trigger them external like we do over here.

I know external triggers and proper tuning are preferable but I have the same question and a very low budget. I'm guessing gains would be limited or Nissan would have switched earlier stock but it seems an age until the exhaust cam kicks in and this is when the engine really comes alive.

i was thinking about an external trigger but i figured if i can just use the ECU to do both at 5600RPM that would be a cheaper option for now..

Would you trust what I say?

Don't bother with just the points. Only thing that is changing by messing the points is the power curve between them (usually 5000-6500)

We recently tuned on dyno a stock sr16ve on 55mm exhaust and stock intake. He was using a mss. His power curve according the mss setup was smooth between the points but gained nothing else.

The mss was removed and the stock ve ecu with daughterboard add-on took place. The gains were everywhere.
The customer is thrilled and even claims he doesn't have to trigger vvl to drive fast in normal conditions.

if al it does is make more noise lower down and looses power than i wont do it but it seems really odd to me that its so high.. i guess the only thing to do is find a rolling road and have a play...

benzene.. yeah toom 3 days in total but 1 of thiose days was spent waiting for hoses toa rrive.. probly about 12 hours work in total to do the swap..

SR16VE engines are designed this way. They make power high on rpm limit range.
VVL is a way for cams to produce more power. It's not a NOS button where you hit and take off.
If engine is not making enough power no vvl combination is gonna help you. The best thing to do is invest on rom tuning to make it more enjoy full.
No magic exhaust/intake is gonna make it fly.
At the end if you get tired left behind strip it down and make it a 2lt.

dont talk to me like a child dude i know how the cams work..

who said anything about it not amking enough power? all i was asking was if be moving the cam timing would i make or loose power..

and it seems the only answert is to go and have a fiddle on a rolling road and see what works and what doesnt..

that was kinda rude

The comments I made were not directly and only for you but for anyone interested reading this thread.
You are free to go to any dyno but since I was there previous you I gave out some advices. Don't take my words as granted, it's your choice.
Messing with the points will only change power at the rpm range where the points were.
You may loose or gain power on that specific rpm range. The top or bottom rpm power will not alter.
