from looking at the calum tune and some other ve tunes(for calums rt or basic board) there is not that big of a differnece in them. usualy just a couple points in the timing area and a diff k value/maf setup. on a side not Listen to Andrea's he has a wealth of knowledge about these engines.

the basic and the real time can come with the same program...the difference is the rt will allow u to tune ur motor to get the best out of it....

I think most people with bolt ons and stock ECU with no tuning device gets about 145-160 WHP.

I have seen with my own eyes the value of dyno tuning with a na VE motor. It always seemed a lot of money to spend to me, but I have the opposite opinion now. NOT dyno tuning is the real waste of money.

Here is mine, stock ve with and intake running stock ve ecu. Aswell as running stock ser exhaust.

Then with N1 cams. As you see I actually lost power, because I was still using the stock exhaust.

Then with a 2.5" exhaust

Then a chipped ve ecu alowing it to rev 8500, programed for N1's running of det 370cc injectors with diff vvl settings.

The snail why are you running 370cc injs?

Also the VE ECU basically acts like a Calum basic ECU minus the low 7200 RPM limiter.

granted i dont know everything about calums gear, but i thought the calum basic ran sr16ve timing maps? these are a lot more aggressive than the 20ve

No real reason. Originally I was running off the stock 330's (I believe 330?). I contacted a guy in NewZealand, Out of the various boad setups he had, one was a board tuned for N1's and basic boltons like mine, so I got that one. It did require 370's for some reason, but I got those for free. I got the board for 130ish then went to a local TV/VCR repair shop and they charge $60 to soulder everything in. So basically, 200 bucks and had a stock ve ecu that spun to 8500, no speed limiter, 5200/5800 switch points, open loop system not needing a O2 sensor. The NZ guy advized me to get a chip burner, so I could alter what ever I wanted, but I have yet to do that as it runs like a charm. Im more then positive you could squeeze a good amount of extra power with the editing software and chip burner but I am happy with how it runs straight off the base map.
