Definitive Answer? UR Pullies on a VE......
Hey guys, just a quick question. I have the UR crank and wp pullies from a DE laying around. Can i install them on my VE with the DE spacer?

I've heard different things, so just wondering before i go take off the VE pulley....

Im not using any sort of spacer. I bought a UR pulley about 2years ago for a sr20de for $150. Put it on my VE and I have never had a problem since.

The same advantage that your lightweight flywheel gives.

Though alot less noticable then a flywheel. I realy didnt notice anything with mine, though the reason I replaced it is because the stock ve pulley has a rubber grommit between the pulley body and pulley ribs. When the rubber ages and dry rots as it did mine, the ribbed part of the pulley that also has the timming marks on in slipped, giving an way incorrect timing number. If I kept driving it, over time it would eventually slip non stop, not powering anything, overheat and the motor would go pop.

I have a spacer just chillin here you can have just pay shipping. It is the DE spacer which should be used for the DE pulleys.

DE spacer=DE pulley

VE spacer=VE pulley

If my memory serves me correctly I believe the GTiR pulley will fit any SR with ANY oil pump, but it uses the larger spacer of the VE as well. GregV sells the GTiR underdrive pulley.

I would just throw on the DE spacer and use the UD pullies. They should work.

OK.. I've checked on this by asking somebody who's put a DE pully on a VE.

The DE crank pully is thicker & needs some material machined off before it is fitted to a VE. Putting it on as-is could damage the oil cover/seal.

The VE crank pully has less material so you need a spacer if you put it on a DE.

Another advantage of the pullies is that they slow down the water pump, preventing cavitation at high RPMs that could lead to overheating with sustained high rev driving like on a road course. This applies to the DE, but I'm not sure about a VE.

Then there is the issue about whether a light pulley reduces engine life on a VE because of the crankshaft configuration (fewer counterweights). Passionate arguments have been offered on both sides of this question.

I agree with TheSnail, however, installing a crank and water pump pulley is not something that will make a perceptible difference to the driver. However, installing a lightened flywheel will make a very perceptable difference in acceleration, especially in the lower gears. IMHO, the flywheel is a better bang for the buck.

Sorry, Daveracer, I know you didn't ask about flywheels.

I remember putting pullies on my old old DE engine and felt a noticable difference. Either way, i have them laying around...so mine as well just put them on.
