jr car is is not a street motor VE

im not talking about if you can rev im talking about actually making power past 9k there is no NA VE that is peaking power anywhere near 9k rpm.

You can rev it to where you want to but im talking about making power

how much more do you guys want to rev ?

happynole go with 12:1 at least if not go with 12:5:1. i would suggest getting a lowport 02 intake mani as they seem to do the trick.

stratton.

we are not talking about crank problems, but more big end and little end bearing probs. This is where the 16ve will shine

Alright, I had the opportunity to have a long talk with Charles last night and I am now educated as to what is the difference. Using the SR16 crank in an SR16 block bored to 92 will make as much or more power than the same bored out block with a SR20 crank. My newfound understanding is that all other factors the same (headwork, cams, bore, cr, and header) the SR16 will be less stressed at anything over 8000 rpm, will rev to 10k, and will make more power up there as well. BUT it will also make it's peak hp higher as well, maybe as high as 92-9500, meaning you have to keep it up at the top end. SO then you have to be sure your tranny is matched, best scenario in this case being the 6 speed which I don't have. I have a B15 with a Nismo mech diff.

So now I'm not really sure which way to go. If I want my peak around 8500 +/- with the ability to rev to 9000 or so, it looks like I might be better off going with the SR20 crank. The most power is likely available going with the SR16 crank, but my tranny may not be ideally suited to this.

Decisions, decisions.

i disagree here

with everything being properly matched you WILL make more power with a 86x92 set up over a 68x92, It simply has more displacement. And you will make a lot more torque.

The big difference is that the 16ve will last a lot longer revving high and make a lot of power up top, plus things like cams, intake etc are better suited t the 16ve crank so the advantage of the 2L crank is not as great. i would feel more comfortable revving the 16ve to 10,000 than reving the 20ve to 8500. That being said a good knife edged de crank can offer some benefits here

the reason i say this is so that if you go 16ve crank you do it for the right reasons. Dont do it to make more power or go faster down the quarter as the 20de crank will prob do that.

on a fwd car though the power delivery of a over bore 11,000rpm 16ve crank set up with itb's will be a sh!t load of fun in the twisties.

I am prob not helping things here with my opinion though as i have argued both sides of the coin. But what can i say i am an objective kinda guy

My dilema exactly. The more I think about, the more I am inclined to go 20ve bottom end since this is not an exclusively race car. I will have to live on the street, I will drive this on weekends, and I will drive back and forth to whatever track days I do. I am going for the knife edging, and making peak power from 8-8.5k with a 9k redline probobly works better for a street driven car anyway.

yeah good choice. It is still a road car and it is easy to fall into the trap of the bigger is better mentality (revs in this case)
You enjoy it a lot more with a few less revs on.
