lol everyones confusing me... i have a hot shot header thats going to be ported an possibly fitted with a 2.5" flex tube and pipe to the cat.. now do i go 3" or 2.5" theres so much going on here my heads spinnin

next year im gonna try to get the budget header.. an possibly n1's.. i dont really wanna switch exhaust next year.. but if i have to i have to.. but i want something thats going to work good for now, an not be uber loud.

I have always found it silly to go 3" after a 2.5 inch header.Only so much air can flow through a 2.5 inch pipe, and going 3" after that makes no sense to me.(mandrel bent anyway). If you do really gain anything besides noise,I would be surprised.
Think about it ...
now a fuji, turbofreak or asp header that is 3" at the collector...definately want 3" for obvious reasons.

..LOL

So how do u explain the shape of this collector?

Nissan/Infiniti Headers

Peace

We don't get the SSAC header down here in NZ, I have Fujis with the secondaries shortened to 14 inches long. Prior to that I had a Burns Collector with 2.25" choke welded onto the Fuji secondaries but that killed a lot of power as the choke was spec'd too small by me. Previously I ran a full 2.5" mandrel bent system. It has been proven over & over on the dyno that our best power is made with a 3" exhaust & having tried & tested 2.5", 3" & a combination of both I agree that full 3" or 3" to the rear muffler is the way to go for max power.

The collector choke aids power by creating velocity that helps to draw exhaust gasses away from the engine, if you spec it too big, too small or do away with it altogether you lose power.

the real potential with the VE's is unlocked with a proper tune.
Tuning with an safc or calum basic (from what I know about these ecu's) will never bring out the potential of the motor.

Throw in some n1's, good header, and better intake and the DE will be left behind

Actually as we are talking about back pressure (created by pressure drop along the exhaust pipe) it does make sense. Pressure drop is higher in a smaller diameter pipe but it increases and is directly related to the length of the pipe. Just because one section is smaller doesn't mean you won't benefit from having the bulk of the exhaust a bit wider.

Thats what I am here for..to learn
Thanks for correcting me on that
I know I posted "3 inch collector" but I meant the size of pipe where it meets the cat...midpipe,or downpipe whatever
I thought the fuji was a 3" ...my bad

I never claimed to be an expert on header or exhaust design,or flow...I just posted my opinion hoping for some feedback...It worked

As for the DE/VE "race"
I have a friend with a bolted de...tearoffguy on here
We both have NXs ,mine is VE his is DE
We have been playing around on the street....NOT BREAKING ANY LAWS,SPEEDLIMITS,ETC.,and NOT STREET RACING
But ...WOT pulls and passing each other, etc.

His set up
DE
POP charger
SSAC 2.5
no cat
VRS 2.5
stock cams,ecu
Light flywheel, not sure of the weight...11lbs I think

My current VE setup
Pop charger,3"WAI
VE MAF
Thermoblock spacers
SSAC 2.5
No cat
Magnaflow oval muffler 3" in to dual 2.5 side exittoo fukin loud
stock cams,calum basic ecu
Light flywheel,11lb. I think

Both cars run flawlessly, use the same oil and have the same suspension.
My car is definately stronger, but not as much as you would think for the difference in cost to build. He has surprised me a few times just cruising along and taking off. From a roll it is closer than you think.
We have not gone from a dig, because his car has a 2nd gear syncro issue.I would waste him between 1-2 shifts
VE pulls harder ,and is way louder, but a good driver in a DE could outrun a poor driver in a VE.I will say that launching the VE is a little tricky when you are all pumped...lol.Wheelspin is fun,but not quick.
We plan on having a gruge match at the track someday....he wants me to disconnect my cams...LOL

Finally someone WHO KNOWS what they are talking about. Alot of these guys get a basic VE setup and expect it to just blister a DE. A good de motor is fast. I am glad somebody who has a VE can admit it is EXPENSIVE to do a VE up.
Good post borngearhead! Post some pics of your maroon car up!
