Port matching my header
Hey fellas. I heard that its a good idea to port match my Gen 5 hotshot header. Heres the problem....I bought a stock VE exhaust gasket and lined it up to the extra Gen 5 header I have and if anything, the gasket would need trimming and not the header. It lines up great on the top ports, but every port on the bottom has the gasket overlapping it by 5mm or less.

Am I missing something because I was told that the header must be ground down and not the gasket

Thanks!

Explain these "top ports" versus "bottom ports". Also 5mm sounds like an insane amount of mismatch.

Sorry I meant to say the top/bottom "portion" of the port.

The ? you need to ask yourself is.

If the VE gasket matches the head then why are you porting the gasket, because if you port the gasket you will be in the same boat because the head will not line up with the header.

Hmmmm.

So if the gasket matches up with the head then the obvious port work that needs to be done is on the header

Ya I agree with that and thus the question I have. A buddy of mine had to port his SSAC header and I thought the SSAC is a carbon copy of the Gen 5....so I'm confused because I don't have to port my header. Weird

ya, my hotshot gen 4 needed some porting on the 2 outer ports on the header.. the middle 2 were almost perfect except ofcourse on the bottom side of the ports were a tad lower then the ports on the head.. which isnt bad cause it isnt over lapping or whatever.. i didnt get all the material off the outter ports that i could of but the bits i had were cheap an crappy an i went through 10 of em.. im gonna upgrade to the ssac soon, atleast for a little while.. an i'll see how that goes .. if i need porting on that im just going to take it to a machinist lol
