Both, I had the basic and Ivan ran the RT.

I suggested somebody hold a timing light above the engine during the dyno pulls to see what actually happens to the timing above 8,000 rpm, but no one was brave enough, lol.

I talked to a few people and they all said it's not hardware it's firmware why it can't go above 8k.

When you set the rev limiter above 8,100 rpm, you basically have no rev limiter. The ecu is not calculating above this rpm threshold.

Same thing apply to the datalogging. You can't datalog rpm, injector duty cylcle, fuel, ignition, water temp, ect.. above 8,000.

Strange how my 8500rpm rev limiter seems to work fine with an N14 ECU then isnt it...

^ the only thing i can think of is that the u.s, had different ecu's to us, or they are running different eproms

Yes, I'm suspecting there are differences between USDM and the rest of the world ecu's. Seem like non US ecu's don't have the rpm limitation.

Non US ecu's could be a good alternative for US guys.

Firmware?

The small program that internally tells the ECU it's basic functions. You can update it by flashing new firmware but if it goes wrong it can be very difficult to fix.

We don't have the problem with tuning or data-logging above 8,100rpm on our daughterboard-equipped VE ECUs and I don't have that problem with my Bikirom either. We do have to re-scale the maps though.
