boost on a 16
i just wonderd what kind of boost you could run on an untouched SR16VE thinking of a GT2871R on a GTi-R manifold.. any input? or has anyone done it? everyone on here doesnt seem to mess with the 16 they jump straight to a 20..

I would say 10-12 PSI or so on 93 octane pump gas

Should make about 300 WHP and 220 Ft Lb Torque.

becarefull with the rods as they are very skinny.

jesus i didnt think it would handle that much.. i was thinking like 8psi max.. no one does rods for the SR16 but i heard someone on here had found one that might fit with work..

all good info though cheers

if i could do it all over again i would rock a 16ve and bore it out to a 1.8L and rev to 11k all day long.

wait a sec i still can

I would say you can probobly boost over 15psi on a sr16ve no problem. The rods are skinny but because of the very high rod/stroke ratio (2.1) there is less stress load on the rods. Also, effective cylinder pressure over crank rotation is not much if any higher than a NA motor, it is just spread out over more crank rotation. A higher compression sr16, say 15:1 compression, will have more stress on the rods because of the higher pressure spike after initial combustion.

H22 rods nearly drop right into a SR16VE. Just get custom pistons with a 1.25mm LOWER wrist pin height. Meaning your piston comp height is now 33.25mm.

Honestly, I think a SR16ve at 15psi could make 350whp at a higher RPM, say 9000rpm and would probobly last longer than a sr20ve as well because of lower piston speed, less cylinder wall side loading, and less friction.

Makes you wonder if a 1.832 92mm bore with 68.9mm stroke SR18VE would wip a SR20VE motors but with 10,000-11,000 RPMs it sure looks like it would.

Would love to see it but I just cant see myself building one.

After we get done with an intake manifold if im not happy with the power im making I am going to go back to a 1.8L

I have the ecu that can tune it and I would buy a set of ultra light weight pistons.

Snickers and I have been talking about how much faster and more reliable a 1.8VE could be since the motor was made for the short stroke.

I might be able to make 150wtq with one but i bet it could also make 230whp at around 9800rpm. It might even be a bit better on gas too

You make 230 WHP and 150 WTQ with a 1.8L and SER gear box with 4.44 FD you will have yourself a winner.

With such a small crank you might even be able to get a way with 13 to 1 compression on 93 octane.

I am 100% sure the N1 crank would love this setup better than the larger 2.2 and 2.3L motors would.

and theres me thinking i would be shunned for bringing up a 92mm bore SR16 should open my mouth abit more oftenn

what about an SR18 crank and rods with a 90mm bore take it to 2.0 but still kieep a good rod ratio?
