the 3" crushbent exhaust wont be killing the power or spool on this setup
the stock sr20ve cams arent hurting it either

I think its in the tuning, condition of the motor, or you have a good exhaust leak somewhere. I have a feelling that your timing and fuel is way off as well.

you should be able to make 300lb ft @ 4000rpm easy on the dyno in 3rd gear and on the street, by 3000rpm ish.

Wastegate maladjustment or malfunction could easily cause this.

Thanks! I definitely have an exhaust leak as I can hear it from sitting in the car. It's at the j-pipe.

The shop that tuned it said that they got 295ish on the dyno but the motor started to knock, so they backed out timing (it's at 14degrees right now).

It's still internally gated, but that could be true as the wastegate popped off a couple years ago and a local shop welded it back on...could've messed up something there?

I was just going to edit my post and add the wastegate could be messed up a bit. If the wastegate popped off, then they could have welded it back on (or whatever they did) but they might not have preloaded it which could cause the wastegate to be leaking exhaust gasses the whole time. I guess i just assumed it was a newer turbo and ok.

Internal wastegate, check the preload as mentioned.

Also, how do we know when boost comes on? I don't see it in the dyno and don't remember anyone mentioning it. My best guess from the dyno was that it starts spooling and finishes between 3-3.5k rpm. How did you come up with 4k Charles? More importantly, when does full boost come on?

Gotcha, I guess it's an even better reason to go external w/g and new exhaust soon.

If you are still running the stock ECU that could be your problem. If i'm wrong i'm sure someone will correct me. Auto ECU's have more timing added to them than manual ECU's to compensate for the tranny. That's probably why the engine starts to knock. Since it is OBD II the ECU probably picks up that the E-manage is pulling timing and tries to add it back. Just a thought. I normally add timing in the lower RPMs to help with spooling then tapper it off once the turbo gets going. That might help it spool quicker.

i did not know that about autos. I need to pick up a manual ecu to get rid of the ses light for that too.

thanks!
